I love Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles but I'm embarrassed because I think it's for boys like Sonic The Hedgehog. Are they really for boys?

They were designed BY boys (actually young men) but they aren't FOR boys specifically. Back then there were certainly a lot of girls and women into Marvel Comics (Cat Yronwode http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catherine_Yronwode )and there is an element in the strip it's easy to miss: the original drawings were heavily influenced by the artist Jack Kirby and by drawing turtles the way they did they were approximating Kirby's approach to the human figure as a collection of shapes. It was fan art which grew into a commercial franchise never something targeted at a particular audience (some of the best work on the strip was done in the nineties by Mark Bode and most people never even saw it because the creators published it). There is a geek element in it but it's not specifically FOR boys at all so don't even be tolerent when they forget about half their audience.

NO WAY!! im a girl and i grew up watching TMNT, i loved that show. They arent specifically for boys or girls, they are just aimed at young viewers (though that never stopped me from rewatching it).
if you enjoy TMNT and Sonic then go ahead and watch them, dont be embarrassed. Everyone has shows they enjoy, and as we grow older a few we cant believe we used to like.

Since you bring up this question, and due to the answers before me have darn there is somewhat of a female fan base for it, you probably haven't met any girls who like it. So I suggest forcing a friend to watch it untill they love it as much as you do

No. Anyone can watch it. If there weren't girls watching it too, then it wouldn't be as popular as it is. Clear, when they were making it, they created it with a male audience in mind, however, it is for anyone that likes action and fighting. This coming from a girl that like action and fighting.

Nope, nothing wrong if you enjoy them. I watched all the seasons and loved them, the 2003 version that is.

TV shows don't have genders. If you enjoy a TV show watch it!
