What is an easy way to learn very simple animation or claymation?

I am looking to create some videos for Youtube with several animated characters talking to each other. I don't need any dazzling effects, amazing graphics or awesome backdrops or anything 3D. I just need something better than childish stick figures. I am wondering what would be an easy program to learn using animation or claymation and what kind of learning curve I am looking at with this very simple setup since most of the animation would be constant lip movement. Also, once I am past a learning curve and my dialogue is all worked in, about how long would a 5 minute video take to create as far as the animation? Any input appreciated!
