Nightwing is Dick Grayson. Dick Grayson used to be part of a circus act with his family, The Flying Graysons. A mob boss came in one show, and gunned down everyone in The Flying Graysons except for Dick. Bruce Wayne was there, and he adopted Dick after seeing what happened. Thus, Dick Grayson becomes the first Robin. As he matures, he grows apart from Bruce and later becomes his own separate hero, Nightwing. Jason Todd is the second Robin. Batman caught him trying to steal the tires of the Batmobile, so he takes him in and adopts him. Jason becomes Robin, but he is very reckless and violent. He stays as Robin for a while. Later, he gets captured by Joker. He is beaten mercilessly with a lead pipe by the Joker, and then later killed by a bomb that Joker planted. He is resurrected by Ra's Al Ghul's Lazarus Pit, and goes insane and becomes the Red Hood, a violent mercenary. Earth 2 Batman is a Batman from a parallel universe.

Earth 1 is called new earth I think. Which is the main world that dc comics takes place. Earth 2 is a different dimension.

Dick Grayson was the 1st robin. He became Nightwing so he could become more then just a sidekick. He want to go off on his own and be his own person.

Jason Todd was the 2nd robin. Killed by joker. Revived with the ra's al ghul's Lazarus Pit. Jason then became and anti hero, breaking his conection with Batman because they had different belifs. Since batman didnt kill joker.

If u want to start u would just go to a comic book shop and pick up the recent issues of Nightwing and Batman new 52.

Nightwing: 1st Robin, playful until becoming Nightwing. Wanted to go solo and became Nightwing

Jason Todd: 2nd Robin, Harsher version, Wanted revenge on both Joker and Batman because Batman didn't kill Joker.

Also, I see nobody mentioned this yet but Jason and Dick actually fought each other when Batman died. They fought to be the replacement of Batman, The new Batman. Jason wanted all the Robins dead before he became Batman, even Tim( third Robin) Jason was determined to become Batman and do things his way( he was very corrupted) but Dick wanted to help Jason because there were fellow Robins. Before Jason fought with Dick he fought with Tim. Now Tim Did not like Jason, and Jason just kept teasing him making him more irritated. Tim lost because of his inexperienced skills to Jason. When Jason fought with Dick, Dick won.

Earth 1 and Earth 2 just different universes.

I don't read a lot of DC comics, only Marvel, but I can answer some of you're questions to the best of my abilities.

Spoilers if you care about this ****

Nightwing is Dick Grayson Aka the first Robin.

His parents(They were circus performers )got killed and Bruce Wayne (Batman) took him, trained him and turned him into his sidekick, Robin. Dick grew older, had a little fight with Batman and went solo for a while as Nightwing.

Jason Todd is the third Robin (I think) and yes, there are like 5 different Robins I think. Just like Dick, his parents die, Batman took him in, trained him and made him Robin. Jason is more of a " rougher" Robin(he breaks bad guys bones and put them into comas instead of just knocking them out like Batman or other Robins does.) Joker killed him, Ra's Al Gaul revived him and Jason turned into an Anti Hero known as Redhood. He found out that Batman didn't or couldn't killed Joker (Joker killed Him) and they fought and Jason/Redhood went solo.

Also, they both became Batman at some point, but went back to Nightwing and Redhood. And for some odd reason, everyone hates Redhood.

Earth 1 and 2 are just different universes, I believe.

What nobody here has mentioned is that he took the name Nightwing to honor both his Mentors, Batman and Superman. Each one added to his finding his own path. Nightwing was a persona, based on Batman, that Superman created for himself to fight crime in the Bottled City of Kandor (circa 1970s DC comics).

Dick Greyson was a circus performer along side his parents. When they where murdered during an act, Bruce Wayne (Batman) stepped in and adopted him. He became the first Robin after stumbling upon Ace (batdog) exiting the secret batcave entrance. After many years of crime fighting along side Batman he became too old for the identity of Robin.

After becoming Nightwing, a boy named Jason Todd became the second Robin. He was later taken by the Joker and left in an abandoned warehouse rigged to explode. He died from internal bleeding and smoke inhalation.

After his funeral, Raz Al Ghul (batman's original mentor) stole the body and replaced it with a fake. He used a lazarus pit to revive Jason to repay Batman for a debt owed. Jason was put into shock from coming back to life and ran from Raz Al Ghul's temple. Upon returning to Gotham City he took the role of Red Hood (Joker's original hero identity before becoming Joker).

He was then replaced by Tim Drake who later became Red Robin. Tim was replaced by Damian (Batman and Catwoman's son) who was then replaced by Carrie. Who helped Batman come out of retirement and save Gotham one more time.
