That's an interesting questions and the answer is "yes".
The popular misconception with the "Death of Superman" that happened in the early 90's was that he was dead and buried. Indeed, Superman was dead. His soul was on the way to the afterlife and his body was depleted of all the solar energy that keeps him alive and well. This death occurred when he fought the character Doomsday to the finish.
Superman's body was then brought to a solar regeneration chamber within the Fortress of Solitude and this soul was reunited with his body.
But enough about that. That is not the Superman that I was speaking of.
During the Infinite Crisis storyline, the "Golden Age" Superman of Earth-2 (Kal-L), fought - along with the current Superman - the character known as Superboy Prime. In this battle, the Golden Age Superman, after flying through a Red Sun sustained such injuries that he died a permanent death. This is a fitting end as he now joins his wife, Lois Kent (of Earth-2).
Are things over for this Superman? Well, not quite. DC comics will be launching through it's Green Lantern title this summer a story called "Blackest Night". This story will feature the many other colored Lantern Corps that exist outside of the Green Lanterns. There are Green Lanterns (Willpower), Red Lanterns (Rage), Yellow Lanterns (Fear), Orange Lanterns (Avarice), Blue Lanterns (Hope), Indigo Lanterns (Compassion), Violet Lanterns (Love), and lastly, Black Lanterns (Death).
The Black Lantern Corps apparently will consist of dead heroes like Jonn' Jonzz - The Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, Firestorm, and the Golden Age Superman.
