"The Simpsons" is NOT family fare! It is way too subversive for kids, and to this day I do not understand why so many parents allow their kids to watch it, then wonder why the kids act like such total imbeciles.
There are a few, but very few, contempory cartoons that are both well-done and family-friendly. My favorite of these is "Kim Possible."--extremely well-written, great animation and character development, and families are portrayed positively. I get withdrawls without a daily "Rufus" fix! I especially love the fact that the dad is a rocket scientist and not a blathering idiot. I'm a modern woman and I'm sick of the way that almost all dads on TV are either abusive, perverted, or brain-dead and totally inept.
I like "SpongeBob" too, but my husband detests that show (just personal dislike--no quality issues), so we don't watch it.
We all enjoy "Ed, Edd and Eddy"--who doesn't remember someone from childhood just like one of the kids on that show?
We catch reruns of "Justice League" and "Batman" every night--again, great animation and character development.
We miss terribly "Johnny Bravo," "The Powerpuff Girls" and "Samurai Jack" RERUNS PLEASE, BOOMERANG!!!!!
Why are the Bugs Bunny cartoons so hard to find these days? If Boomerang wants to show "old school" cartoons, show them instead of running "The Flintstones" and "Scooby-Doo" ad nauseum.
Don't get me started on "South Park," "Family Guy" or "Adult Swim." I can't wait until they "get dipped." (Remember "Roger Rabbit"?)
The comments about "Watership Down" were obviously made by someone who didn't read the book. Yeah, the movie stunk, but it was because of poor quality animation (as all animation was in the late '70's) and lack of faithfulness to the book.
