I went to Amazon 2 buy anime and saw that it shows the selling price for a new box set, but bellow it shows cheeper dvds sold by users. If I buy the new user copies am I still helping the anime industry?

No, your not because part that was helping the industry was already done by the person who bought it in the first place. The money you pay for a used copy will not go to the anime industry, and therefore is not helping.
A way that you can watch anime for free is by watching online anime on OFFICIAL websites. Like on Funimations channel on youtube.com, you can watch Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood for free, but funimation is making money from the commercials that come on. They get money for the advertising.
