Can Spider-Man lift a car?

This is kind of a silly question, but my brother and I have been debating about it. Do you think Spider-man has the strength to physically lift up a car and throw it? My brother says "Of course he could!" where as I said "He might be able to lift it and perhaps knock it over." So which one of us is right?

There's a fairly recent issue (#539) of Amazing Spider-Man where he picked up a Jeep and threw it 3 stories up at a building that was across the street. Keep in mind, he was extremely pissed...he was aiming at a sniper that shot his aunt.

As with any person, feats of incredible strength have been reported. for example there was a mother who lifted a car to save her child. Spider-man is able to easily lift 12 tons, which is equivalent to 24,000 lbs. At points of high stress, I think he has lifted about 40 tons.

Yes he is supposed to have the strenght of a spider. Some spiders can lift or pull like 80 times thier own weight.

Yes, Spidey can lift a car and throw it. He has super human strength and can lift 20 tons in his Iron Spider suit.

Spiderman could lift a city bus. Heck in the first movie he held up a cable car full of kids. You are looking at good 4 tons of weight if take into consideration the tension on the cable.



His super-strength is always underplayed in both the comics and the movies, because his agility is more emphasized for his character.



But yeah, a car, no sweat for Spidey.

When he was bit by the radioactive spider, he was given all the abilities of the enhanced spider. Spiders can pull and lift objects many times their size and weight. With his bare hands, he could lift it and throw it, barely. When he first got his powers he didnt and couldnt realize his potential. After many battles and practice his strength is tremendous.

Of course! He has the proportionate strength of a spider, so he can "lift or press 10 tons or more," certainly enough to lift a car. I think I've seen him do it, too.

I doubt that he'd be able to just walk up to it and pick it up with his bare hands, he doesn't have super-strength, but he may be able to web it an pull it towards....something.
