gotta love your surveys~!

1. (a) Are you turned off a series if its very long or very short and why? (short = 7- eps, long = 50+ eps) or (short = 2- volumes, long = 23+ volumes)

ahh yes recently, I dropped Naruto Shippuuden when the fillers started after Asuma's death ummm becuase I didn't really like the idea of killing the characters one by one, actually the best ones!! when I heard that Kakashi is dead (from someone who reads the manga) I was shocked and mad on the creator of Naruto, kinda all of my favourite characters are dying and you know I don't give a sh!t about Naruto and Sasuke and I'm not interested if Sasuke will come back or not, and since the series is going that way then why should I continue watching it?!?!?! for me all the excitement in Naruto is dead and the fillers made it even worse lol... there's actually no reason to watch it that's why I stopped, Naruto got ridiculous

(b) If the art is old fashioned or unappealing, would you stop watching/reading even if the storyline seems to be very good?

NEVER!! I'm one of those fans who don't care about the art as long as there's a good story and amazing characters (if I don't like any of the characters I won't watch the anime, but that rarely happens)

2. (a) Recommend an anime/manga? (it's not a recommendation to me, its any one that you really enjoy that you think people who see your answer should watch/read) And why do you recommend it?

One piece!!!~

because it has a good plot, great characters, variety of arcs, cool villains, unexpected incidents and the best thing about this anime is that the fillers are amusing!! one of the filler arcs is my fav actually : )

(b) The anime/manga you recommended, is it :

>> From before the year 2000? :: Yes, it is!

>> Does it consist of your favourite genre? :: absolutely, it has all I need in an anime. . .

>> Does it reflect your usual preference in anime/manga? :: yes, kind of

>> Is it well animated/the art good? :: for me it's good, but lots of people say it's bad but I don't care I love it!!

>> Is the series it long or short or still airing/being published? :: it's long and it's stil airing and published, it recently reached the 400th episodes

>> Did you watch/read it recently? :: no, not these days I actually can't control myself when it's about waiting for an episode every week, I just can't wait that much so yeah I decided not to watch it for a year and then I'll watch all the episodes one after another without waiting ^^

3. Which is the best anime or manga you've read with elements of the below in (and a brief explanation of why you prefer it to others of the same type) :-

(you can skip genres if you havn't watched)

>> Drama And/Or Tragedy :: Romeo No Aoi Sora, it's about friendship and what can a friend really do for his friend and what'd happen if that dear friend died, yes... it's sad, good and a masterpiece!! it's old though, but old is gold~!

>> Supernatural :: Ghost hound and Persona Trinity Soul, I didn't really like those animes and I usually escape from this genre so I don't recommend it to anyone >.>

>> Demons And/Or Vampires :: Shingetsutan Tsukihime, it was ok not that great...

>> Swords :: Rurouni Kenshin, I loved it!! but there were some episodes that shouldn't be there but overall it was good not one of my favourites...

>> Feudal Japan :: I dunno what Feudal means (yup, my english is poor) but if it means historical, then I'd say Peacemaker Kurogane and Rurouni Kenshin, I loved them both but peacemaker was better and one of my favourite mangas..

>> Comedy :: One Piece, School Rumble, GTO and Cromartie High School I love all of those and I can't hold my laughs and giggles whenever I watch one of those!!

>> Science Fiction And/Or Mecha :: Escaflowne!! a very beautiful series and truly one of my all-time favourites, recommended to everyone out there, although I'm not a mecha type lover but this one really caught my attention hats off : )

>> Optional Bonus Question:

>> What is your favourite written novel/book? XD

1. I honestly don't care, so long as the characters are good, the plot is solid and it all around makes sense (bobobo non-inclusive).

Im not that picky about the art. I like everything from Toyama-san's (DBZ, Dr. Slump) retro style, Togiashi-san's (Yuyu Hakusho) simple and dynamic style. I like Asada-san (of Letter Bee) becase he falls in the middle.

2. I recomend the afforementioned Letter Bee. The art is simmilar to Naruto, and the characters are memorable. I like Zanji the best. I honestly don't know how to classify Letter Bee into a sereis, other than fantasy and kinda tragedy. As far as I know it is fairly recently published, just begining in the US a few months back. The series is still in the early stages. I would like to see it continue for a while, and watch Lag grow and develop. I read it at about 1 o clock today.

3. Supernatural: Yuyu Hakusho. I love the characters, the art is cool, and the action scenes are amazing. Its very similar to DBZ, which is nice.

Demons: Eh, Yuyu Hakusho again. But if I have to pick a different one... Rosario Vampire is the only other one i've read, but I don't like much... do the shinigami form deathnote count? I do like that one.

Swords: Bleach, I suppose.

Comedy: Bobobobobobobobo or whatever it is. I like it for da random.

Sci fi: Ultimo. Its fairly new, only two chapters. Its a colaboration effort between stan lee and hiroyuki takei.

Drama: Tie. Tsubasa and Letter Bee.

1. (a) Are you turned off a series if its very long or very short and why? (short = 7- eps, long = 50+ eps) or (short = 2- volumes, long = 23+ volumes)

Not really. I'll watch just about anything as long as it has an interesting plot.

(b) If the art is old fashioned or unappealing, would you stop watching/reading even if the storyline seems to be very good?

No. I mean, art's an important part of course, but I think the plot is most important.

2. (a) Recommend an anime/manga? (it's not a recommendation to me, its any one that you really enjoy that you think people who see your answer should watch/read) And why do you recommend it?

I recommend Sailor Moon because it's HUGE (popular, important, kinda long) and I think everyone should see it at least once. Duh.

(b) The anime/manga you recommended, is it :

>> From before the year 2000? :: Yep. I think so, at least.

>> Does it consist of your favourite genre? :: Yep. Shojo, and it's also got that whole magical girl thing!

>> Does it reflect your usual preference in anime/manga? :: Yep. I usually like Shojo. I'm a hopeless romantic. 0_O

>> Is it well animated/the art good? :: Yep. Everything seems to be...perfect. The art is fantastic, I mean to say.

>> Is the series it long or short or still airing/being published? :: It's fairly long (and has a lot of story arcs) and it is no longer being aired or published, though I wish it was.

>> Did you watch/read it recently? :: Yep. Read it...last week, I think it was.

3. Which is the best anime or manga you've read with elements of the below in (and a brief explanation of why you prefer it to others of the same type) :-

(you can skip genres if you havn't watched)

>> Drama And/Or Tragedy :: Ultra Maniac - It's so cute, I just love it! I mean, I kinda just found out about it recently, but I think it's so adorable! The second volume (the one I read first 0_o) made me cry! It's so...kyaaaa!

>> Supernatural ::

>> Demons And/Or Vampires :: Inuyasha - It was the one that got me started with anime and manga again, so there's that, but I also think it's so sweet, even with all the pervy comedy and action in it.

>> Swords :: Again, Inuyasha.

>> Feudal Japan :: Inuyasha.

>> Comedy :: Hm...tough, but right now (this is probably going to change) I think I like Chobits the best for comedy. It's so cute, but it's also kinda deep. But then it'll go straight to something cute and silly, and I appreciated that. ^_^

>> Science Fiction And/Or Mecha :: Code Geass - It kinda has some mecha in it, but I still watch it, even though I don't really like mecha, because I like to think about the tactical aspects of things, which is one of the major aspects of Code Geass.

>> Optional Bonus Question:

>> What is your favourite written novel/book? XD

Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson.

1.a)Well, I never look at how long the series is before I watch one, but I guess if it's too long then I'll get a bit turned off because I might have trouble finding the episodes. If it's too short, it might be really good and a real bummer because it ended fast.

b)Yes, I often do get turned off by that. I believe that a great storyline should always be drawn in the best manner possible (whatever fits the story).

2.a) I have so many anime series I can recommend. Ouran High School Host Club, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Card captor sakura, Tsubasa Chronicles...the list goes on

b) Yes they're all from my fave genres. I think Card Captor sakura might be a bit (a year or two) before 2000, but the rest probably after. I recommend them because most have some romantic theme and all have some really funny moments and some action-ish moments too. Only card captor sakura is not ongoing...it's pretty long but it's really cute.

3. Best Feudal Japan: Rurounin Kenshin (sp?), Inuyasha

Comedy/Drama: Kodomo no Omocha, Special A, Ouran High School Host Club,

Swords: Bleach

Supernatural: Full Metal Alchemist, Tsubasa Chronicles,

Mecha: Magic Knights of Rayearth
Black Winged Assassin

Nice to see that you're back with surveys.

1. (a) Are you turned off a series if its very long or very short and why? (short = 7- eps, long = 50+ eps) or (short = 2- volumes, long = 23+ volumes)

-No, not really. I enjoy every series. As long as it has a plot and it finishes, I won't complain about it being too short or too long.

(b) If the art is old fashioned or unappealing, would you stop watching/reading even if the storyline seems to be very good?

-Heck no. That's really rude to the creator of the manga and/or anime. They put so much effort into their artwork. Saying it's old and unappealing is clearly disrespectful to the creators. I really like old and new styles.

2. (a) Recommend an anime/manga? (it's not a recommendation to me, its any one that you really enjoy that you think people who see your answer should watch/read) And why do you recommend it?

-Kara No Kyoukai

(b) The anime/manga you recommended, is it :

>> From before the year 2000? ::

-No. Around 2004-now.

>> Does it consist of your favourite genre? ::

Yes, it does. It has:

action

romance

supernatural

magic and sword fighting

>> Does it reflect your usual preference in anime/manga? ::

-Yep, it does. I'm not sure of the usual preference. I just heard about it so much that I decided to watch it.

>> Is it well animated/the art good? ::

-Yes, very. It has good quality artwork, and the animation is very well made. The action is very captivating. With the music, it is awesome.

>> Is the series it long or short or still airing/being published? ::

Well, it's more like each episode is a movie. It's very lengthy. It surpasses 40-50 minutes in length. There's only 5 movies out in English subbed, and the two leftover is raw and the other is just about to be released in the movies in Japan.

>> Did you watch/read it recently? ::

-I watched it recently. I finished most of it last week.

3. Which is the best anime or manga you've read with elements of the below in (and a brief explanation of why you prefer it to others of the same type) :-

(you can skip genres if you havn't watched)

>> Demons And/Or Vampires ::

Blood+

-I really loved this series to death. It's beyond one of the best demonic vampire series made ever. it's not based on vampire but the creatures are close to it. It's just so well made. The plot was nicely developed and so were the characters. The soundtracks were very nice too.

>> Swords ::

-Sword of the Stranger

-Best movie that I have ever seen with sword fighting. It's awesome. I can't explain it that well since I watched it around 12am. I loved it. It was a great lengthy movie and I enjoyed it. It was sad in the end though.

>> Feudal Japan ::

-I'm gonna go with Ruruoni Kenshin

-It has that feel and look to Rurouni Kenshin. It's like being in those old times where you wish you could wear a kimono and walk in Japan with an umbrella above you with all those cherry blossoms in bloom.

>> Comedy ::

-The best one ever: One Piece

Best series ever and the comedy never dies. It always makes me laugh. The humor is timed well when its supposed to be funny and not funny. The thing about One Piece is that it teaches you to appreciate the life that you have and have a laugh or two to relax.

>> Optional Bonus Question:

>> What is your favourite written novel/book? XD

My Sisters Keeper

I love this book. Each chapter has a first person dialouge to it by the main characters. The plot was well made and so was the development of those characters. Until the very end of the book, I enjoyed all of it. I read it twice, and I plan to read it again.

Hey Krystal! How ya been? :) Hehehehe time to copy and paste! ^___^

1. (a) Are you turned off a series if its very long or very short and why? (short = 7- eps, long = 50+ eps) or (short = 2- volumes, long = 23+ volumes)

===> I think if it's REALLY long and I'm REALLY behind, then I probably won't really watch it that much >.<

(b) If the art is old fashioned or unappealing, would you stop watching/reading even if the storyline seems to be very good?

===> Wow umm I'll try not to >.< But yes, that has happened before... I'm ashamed. However, the storyline wasn't actually that good o.O

2. (a) Recommend an anime/manga? (it's not a recommendation to me, its any one that you really enjoy that you think people who see your answer should watch/read) And why do you recommend it?

===> Hmm I'm really enjoying Kaichou wa Maid-sama! It's a manga that's really cute, sweet, and funny. Not to mention, the art is really good :)

(b) The anime/manga you recommended, is it :

>> From before the year 2000? :: Nope

>> Does it consist of your favourite genre? :: Yes :)

>> Does it reflect your usual preference in anime/manga? :: Hmm kinda

>> Is it well animated/the art good? :: Pshyeah! xD

>> Is the series it long or short or still airing/being published? :: Still being published. 35 chapters out so far.

>> Did you watch/read it recently? :: Yeps! I keep waiting for the next chapter xD hehehe

3. Which is the best anime or manga you've read with elements of the below in (and a brief explanation of why you prefer it to others of the same type) :-

(you can skip genres if you havn't watched)

>> Drama And/Or Tragedy :: Code Geass - It can get really dramatic but it can also be pretty sad due to the deaths =(

>> Supernatural :: Umm does Shaman King count? I love the whole "shaman" thing and the show has a nice touch of other genres too.

>> Demons And/Or Vampires :: Wow ummm does the manga DOGS count? It includes people that have been experimented on and they have been changed to heal fast, be super strong, etc. =.=

>> Swords :: Bleach xD One of very few animes that I've watched that has swords in it. Though that I don't really watch it that much anymore, I still think it's pretty good

>> Feudal Japan ::

>> Comedy :: Ouran High School Host Club - Hilarious show that kept me laughing the whole entire time ♥

>> Science Fiction And/Or Mecha :: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - Most sci-fi has TOO much sci-fi, so that might get confusing. But Haruhi Suzumiya has just enough and also has a lot of comedy <3

1. (a) Are you turned off a series if its very long or very short and why? (short = 7- eps, long = 50+ eps) or (short = 2- volumes, long = 23+ volumes)

I don't want it too short for anime, for there isn't enough time to develop the story (Jungre de Ikou is only three episodes; Magical Play is five), However, I don't want it too long, for then it feels like the story will never get to a conclusion and i get bored with filler episodes (like Naruto and One Piece)

For anime, I will accept 52 episodes (four season), for manga, I'm a bit more flexible

(b) If the art is old fashioned or unappealing, would you stop watching/reading even if the storyline seems to be very good?

If the storyline is good, I will try to tough it out

2. (a) Recommend an anime/manga? (it's not a recommendation to me, its any one that you really enjoy that you think people who see your answer should watch/read) And why do you recommend it?

Although I am a big advocate of "Mahoromatic", I will take up the cause of "Mushi-Shi". It tells the tale of Ginko, a Mushi master (mushi are a kind of demon that bedevil people) who helps rid people of these mushi.

The stories are compelling and the artwork is stunning, It is a gentle series (in that there are no robots or explosions. It appears to be taking place in the 1870s or thereabouts),

the 10-book manga ran from 1999 to 2008, the 26-episode anime ran fron 2005 tp 2006. I saw episodes 5 and 6 today on Comcast's On Demand section

i chose it for it is unlike any anime I have seen (never read the manga)

(b) The anime/manga you recommended, is it :

>> From before the year 2000? ::

>> Supernatural ::

Mushi-Shi

Scrapped Princess. Princess pacifica Casull cannot be allowed to reach her 16th birthday, for she will destroy the world. But what is it she is "destroying")

>> Demons And/Or Vampires ::

Black Blood Brothers, as I never thought of vampires being prejudiced against other vampires

Vampire Princess Miyu. She is a daywalker, actually trying to send lost souls on their way

>> Swords ::

Samurai Champloo

Devil May Cry (OK, this could be supernatural, but i do need a sword epic) A demon hunter with a huge sword

>> Feudal Japan ::

Rika-chan~!! ^^

Hello. Nice to see another one of your surveys again.

...

Finally! >:DD

~~~
1. (a) Are you turned off a series if its very long or very short and why? (short = 7- eps, long = 50+ eps) or (short = 2- volumes, long = 23+ volumes)
:::: Anime: Short
- no. If it's short and good, I'm happy. Conciseness is good! xD
When I borrow anime from the library, I borrow the shorter series like the single-movie types and/or series like Full Metal Panic!. That way (since I go to the library... uhh... sporadically... not very often... ^^")... the storyline won't be interrupted by my anime hiatuses as much.
:::: Anime: Long
- definitely not! >:DD If I read a manga and find it to be really good, I might just start watching the anime! Long or not. xD
Such as KHR!. ;D ;D ;D It's awesome, and fairly long.
Though some long ones like Bleach and Naruto and One Piece seem a bit daunting... O.O"
I'm so behind on Bleach.. >.< I might just not put the series on hold until it's finished. xD It would take forever to catch up.
I kinda stopped watching Naruto... >.>" Sorry, Naruto fans... DD:
I haven't tried One Piece. Its length kinda scared me. xD
:::: Manga: Short
- If its' really good, I like it because it leaves you with a sense of completion and all...
If it's not so good, I don't mind because it's short, so I finish it really quickly. xD
:::: Manga: Long
- I LOVE these. XD
I'm not turned off of long manga series, because
1) I like to read... a LOT lol... before I discovered manga, I'd read tons of the books I'd find in the adult section of the library (such as Star Wars lol. O.O" I can't believe I did that. Not that it was bad, but... I missed out on manga for so long! >:O).
2) The ongoing ones give you something to look forward too, and if it's completed and long and GOOD, then it gives you a safety net, so you'll have something good to read even when you finish those shorter series. XD
(b) If the art is old fashioned or unappealing, would you stop watching/reading even if the storyline seems to be very good?
:::: No. If the storyline's good even if the art is unconventional, (EX: One Piece)... I'd read it.
... err... not sure about watch it. xD Only if the storyline was really good when I'd read it as a manga.
2. (a) Recommend an anime/manga? (it's not a recommendation to me, its any one that you really enjoy that you think people who see your answer should watch/read) And why do you recommend it?
:::: I really enjoy Eyeshield 21 and Katekyo Hitman Reborn!. ;D ;D
I recommend both series because both of them have great comedy and awesome action. xD
The stories held my interest while reading (and watching) them.
Eyeshield 21 has no (or very few) fillers. If any, they're still really good.
KHR! has few fillers too, but then there's the long introductory arc. Afterwards, the plot gets a lot better.
Also, the art for both series isn't bad. ;D ;D
(b) The anime/manga you recommended, is it :
>> From before the year 2000? :: Yes
>> Does it consist of your favourite genre? :: Yes
>> Does it reflect your usual preference in anime/manga? :: Yes
>> Is it well animated/the art good? :: Yes
>> Is the series it long or short or still airing/being published? :: Both LONG, lol. xD
ES21 manga - over 330 chapters, publishing; anime - 145 eps, completed
KHR! manga - over 240 chapters, publishing; anime, over 135 eps, airing
>> Did you watch/read it recently? :: Yes. xD Very recently. I'm watching KHR! at the moment. XD
3. Which is the best anime or manga you've read with elements of the below in (and a brief explanation of why you prefer it to others of the same type) :-
(you can skip genres if you havn't watched)
>> Drama And/Or Tragedy :: Bitter Virgin (manga). It had some of both in it. It was pretty sad, but cute. :| ....It's one of the few seinen series I've read, but it was pretty good. XD I rarely read series in this genre though.
>> Supernatural :: Bleach, D.Gray-man
Bleach (manga) is ongoing, and gives me something to look forward to every week. XD I like the characters, lol. The plot is fine too. o.O" I think it could improve a bit though... at least recently... >.>"
It has some pretty funny spots, too.
... so does DGM (manga). The whole innocence vs akuma bit was pretty interesting. I hope the mangaka will finally get back from all her (?) hiatuses. >.<
>> Demons And/Or Vampires :: Chrono Crusade (Demons) and Vampire Knight (Vampires)
I haven't read very many series with either demons or vampires in them... ^^"
Chrono Crusade was suggested by my little brother, of all people. O.O"
It was good. It was funny, exciting... but it ended fairly quickly (7 volumes I think...?). And it had a sad ending. :|
... but that just contributes to its being a good story! >:D
>.>" Maybe I should have put this under 'Tragedy'... DDX
And Vampire Knight. It has bits of humor and beautiful art. It was one of my favorite shojo series so far. Definitely the best (that I've read) with vampires in it. XD The storyline could be a *bit* less cliche, though... >.>" But hey, a lot of those kinds of stories are pretty cliche too, right? O.o"
>> Swords :: Chronicles of the Cursed Sword (er... it's a manhwa. ^^")
I liked the art. XD And the storyline. And the humor. What's good about the series is that -every volume- leaves you wanting to read more. Even series like Bleach and RuroKen didn't always do that for me.
>> Feudal Japan :: Rurouni Kenshin
It was pretty exciting. O.O" I prefer the art for this series over the other series I've checked out (not necessarily read), that are Japanese historical (/fiction) in the feudal era.
<- wait, RuroKen DOES take place in Feudal Japan, right? Or am I getting the definitions mixed up?
The romance bit and certain characters added comedy. XD And *certain people* dying at the end made it sad too. =.=" But at least it ended in a complete-ish way... so you don't feel like this: >:O HEY! IT'S NOT DONE!
XD
>> Comedy :: Katekyo Hitman Reborn! and Eyeshield 21
Most of the characters either are funny themselves... or the reactions they stimulate in other characters that they come in contact with, are HILARIOUS. O.O"
>> Science Fiction And/Or Mecha :: -skip-
>> Optional Bonus Question:
>> What is your favourite written novel/book? XD
:::: Too many. XD I'll just pick from school books to narrow it down. I like books like Orwell's 1984, Golding's Lord of the Flies, and Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. All of them being nice, deep books. Plenty of historical references/allusions. Plenty of symbolism. Plenty of thematic elements. etc etc etc. Overall: Fun to read and easy to analyze <- the MOST IMPORTANT PART! >:DD
XD
I can't wait for the next survey. ;D ;D
1. (a) Are you turned off a series if its very long or very short and why? (short = 7- eps, long = 50+ eps) or (short = 2- volumes, long = 23+ volumes)
If it's long it's a little intimidating when you've got 37592659 episodes staring you in the face...so yes.
(b) If the art is old fashioned or unappealing, would you stop watching/reading even if the storyline seems to be very good?
No. Even though I'm not a fan of the old art style, I've found that some of the older ones are the best.
2. (a) Recommend an anime/manga? (it's not a recommendation to me, its any one that you really enjoy that you think people who see your answer should watch/read) And why do you recommend it?
The Wallflower. It's not your typical high school romance anime. Cracked me up so many times! Just an overall good story, and the animation is great too...the lips take a little getting used to, though. (The manga goes on farther than the anime does)
(b) The anime/manga you recommended, is it :
>> From before the year 2000? :: Sailor Moon, of course!
>> Does it consist of your favourite genre? :: Noo, I'm not really into magical girl.
>> Does it reflect your usual preference in anime/manga? :: Nope.
>> Is it well animated/the art good? :: For it's time, I think it was very pretty.
>> Is the series it long or short or still airing/being published? :: Looooong! And no..
>> Did you watch/read it recently? :: Haha, sort of.
3. Which is the best anime or manga you've read with elements of the below in (and a brief explanation of why you prefer it to others of the same type) :-
(you can skip genres if you havn't watched)
>> Drama And/Or Tragedy :: ELFEN LIED. The characters become real, I swear. Everything about the series is connected and it's just...breathtaking.
>> Supernatural :: Darker Than Black. The whole idea is very unusual and it really makes you think. I like anime that don't need humor to be good.
>> Demons And/Or Vampires :: Blood + ...haven't watched much (Not into the vampire anime) but I've liked it.
>> Swords :: Rouini Kenshin...again, not too into the whole sword thing.
>> Feudal Japan :: ^^^
>> Comedy :: Oh man...that'd take some thought!
>> Science Fiction And/Or Mecha ::
>> Optional Bonus Question:
>> What is your favourite written novel/book? XD
Lol, yeah I know. x_x So many exams.
1. (a) Are you turned off a series if its very long or very short and why? (short = 7- eps, long = 50+ eps) or (short = 2- volumes, long = 23+ volumes)
>> Not really. I just get turned off to a series if it's just pretty much all fillers, and nothing interesting. :]
(b) If the art is old fashioned or unappealing, would you stop watching/reading even if the storyline seems to be very good?
>> No, because I might be missing out on a really good anime! =D
2. (a) Recommend an anime/manga? (it's not a recommendation to me, its any one that you really enjoy that you think people who see your answer should watch/read) And why do you recommend it?
>> The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. It has action, comedy, drama, random-ness, etc. What else could you want? XD
(b) The anime/manga you recommended, is it :
>> From before the year 2000? :: I don't think so.
>> Does it consist of your favourite genre? :: Yep!! Action/comedy!
>> Does it reflect your usual preference in anime/manga? :: Yes. =D
>> Is it well animated/the art good? :: It is, in my opinion.
>> Is the series it long or short or still airing/being published? :: It started airing season 2 a week ago. :]
>> Did you watch/read it recently? :: A few days ago.
3. Which is the best anime or manga you've read with elements of the below in (and a brief explanation of why you prefer it to others of the same type) :-
(you can skip genres if you havn't watched)
>> Drama And/Or Tragedy :: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. It has other genre's in it besides Drama and Tragedy.
>> Supernatural :: Death Note. It just has such a complex plot line that it's almost impossible not to like it!
>> Demons And/Or Vampires :: InuYasha. It has humor, action, adventure, a lot of fillers, but you can skip them. xD
>> Swords :: Not sure. xP
>> Feudal Japan :: InuYasha.
>> Comedy :: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.
>> Science Fiction And/Or Mecha :: Escaflowne. It has action/romance and so much more!
>> Optional Bonus Question:
Wow, it has been over a month.
1. (a) Are you turned off a series if its very long or very short and why? (short = 7- eps, long = 50+ eps) or (short = 2- volumes, long = 23+ volumes)
>>Well, I actually like OVA's (manga/anime) becuase I find that they are much more well put together. However, the longer stuff has more indepth detail on the storyline. V.V If it's anime, I don't really "shrug it off" unless it's not on television (because I couldn't afford it), if it's manga, I'll just go for the shorter ones only becuase I can also not afford longer series.
(b) If the art is old fashioned or unappealing, would you stop watching/reading even if the storyline seems to be very good?
>>NO!! I'm all about storyline!
2. (a) Recommend an anime/manga? (it's not a recommendation to me, its any one that you really enjoy that you think people who see your answer should watch/read) And why do you recommend it?
>>Slayers. The new stuff today is just filled with pure drama and toilet humor....and for some people, that can get quite tiring and boring. I suggest this anime because it's one of those where you can pay half attention to the plot line yet still get all of what's going on....even with all the slapstick humor. So, Slayers is the "rest stop" of anime to me where I can just take a load off and have a good time.
(b) The anime/manga you recommended, is it :
>> From before the year 2000? :: YES
>> Does it consist of your favourite genre? :: YES
>> Does it reflect your usual preference in anime/manga? :: Sort of.
>> Is it well animated/the art good? :: NOT ALWAYS
>> Is the series it long or short or still airing/being published? :: Well, it was made back in 1997, but another season was added on last year. It should be just be around 100 episodes, not including the movies and ova's. It's faintly long, but not on-going.
>> Did you watch/read it recently? :: YUP
3. Which is the best anime or manga you've read with elements of the below in (and a brief explanation of why you prefer it to others of the same type) :-
(you can skip genres if you havn't watched)
>> Drama And/Or Tragedy :: Grave of the Fireflies:This movie speaks for itself. I suggest you watch it....if you already have, then you know what I'm talking about.
>> Supernatural ::
>> Demons And/Or Vampires :: Hellsing/Vampire Hunter D (both of the original versions): Very good storyline, entertaining action.
>> Swords :: Slayers: I already explained this one.
>> Feudal Japan :: .....Moribito. Again, the storyline was good.
>> Comedy :: Midori Days: Just the right amount of comedy and ecchiness (not too overboard with either).
>> Science Fiction And/Or Mecha :: Vandread. I thought the concept was well put together.
>> Optional Bonus Question:
>> What is your favourite written novel/book? XD
>>In the Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King. This is one of this earlier books from the early 70's. Sure it's in the medival time, but it's more of a story about how two or three personalities can affect people's entire lives.......the way they grew up and the way the world would reflect in their eyes. Very good.
>>Glory Lane. I don't know why I like this book, it was just one of those that I had to read again.
Okay, that's it......GOOD SURVEY.
1. (a) Are you turned off a series if its very long or very short and why? (short = 7- eps, long = 50+ eps) or (short = 2- volumes, long = 23+ volumes) I'm not a big fan of short anime series, short series have little character or plot development. Most of my favorite anime series are 75+ episodes long, some more than a hundred. Basically no less than 20 episodes at the MINIMUM.
(b) If the art is old fashioned or unappealing, would you stop watching/reading even if the storyline seems to be very good?
Hell no, I'm still a huge fan of the work of Osamu Tezuka, and most of my favorites are from the mid 70s-late 80s.
2. (a) Recommend an anime/manga? (it's not a recommendation to me, its any one that you really enjoy that you think people who see your answer should watch/read) And why do you recommend it?
Now this is a hard one to answer, I recommend Legend of Galactic Heroes, it's one of the most epic space operas created.
(b) The anime/manga you recommended, is it :
>> From before the year 2000? :: Yup
>> Does it consist of your favourite genre? ::Nope, bigger fan of cyber/steam punk, but those are very niche genres.
>> Does it reflect your usual preference in anime/manga? :: Kinda
>> Is it well animated/the art good? :: For its time, very
>> Is the series it long or short or still airing/being published? :: 100+ OVAs, created back in the 80s.
>> Did you watch/read it recently? ::Last month
3. Which is the best anime or manga you've read with elements of the below in (and a brief explanation of why you prefer it to others of the same type) :-
(you can skip genres if you havn't watched)
>> Drama And/Or Tragedy :: Kimagure Orange Road, well developed characters and plot.
>> Supernatural :: Lament of the Lamb, just holy crap
>> Demons And/Or Vampires :: Vampire Hunter D, he's a badass. Period.
>> Swords :: Record of the Lodoss War, again very well developed characters and plot.
>> Feudal Japan :: Kenshin, though quite cheesy, I really enjoyed the characters as they were quite identifiable. I enjoy the story of Kenshin's quest for redemption after the events of Samurai X. That or The Tale of Genji, which is still being made, only a few eps in, based on what is believed to be the first novel EVER.
>> Comedy :: Tenchi Muyo, it's freakin brilliant that's why. Harem always kills.
>> Science Fiction And/Or Mecha :: I'm breaking this one down.
Cyberpunk: Armitage or Ergo Proxy. Cyberpunk is always very
philosophical concerning reasons for existence and the human condition and these two define the genre quite well.
Steampunk: Nadia, one of the best classic steampunk animes. Fun yet the adventures Nadia and Jean are awesome, plus it's heavily based on Jules Vern, who was an amazing author.
Pure Scifi: Legend of Galactic Heroes
Mecha: SDF Macross or Armored Trooper Votoms
>> Optional Bonus Question:
>> What is your favourite written novel/book? XD
Anything by Lovecraft. It's too bad I haven't been able to find any anime based on his works.
*stalks you*
1. (a) Are you turned off a series if its very long or very short and why? (short = 7- eps, long = 50+ eps) or (short = 2- volumes, long = 23+ volumes)
===> Yeah, I am sometimes don't bother with animes are:
1. More than 26 eps because I don't like slow storylines and I prefer it if the anime doesn't have too many fillers and lose the point. But I do like some of the fillers that piece together and reveal little bits of information on certain side characters [D.Gray man fillers lol, but the pirate one was just horrible...the komurin fillers were hilarious XD].
2. 1 single episode OVAs unless it has high ratings because it's just too short for my tastes, I don't think the anime would have enough time to introduce all the characters let alone explain the whole story within 25mins and it would have ended too quickly :\
I am picky, lol ^_^
(b) If the art is old fashioned or unappealing, would you stop watching/reading even if the storyline seems to be very good?
===> Ok, I admit, at the beginning, I sometimes can't stand it but I would still continue watching it. If the storyline is good, I'd disregard the old fashion and concentrate on the feeling the anime is portraying [e.g Grave of the Fireflies] and later on in the story, I wouldn't even care about the animation =) Like they say: "Never judge a book by it's cover" ;D
Oh, for manga, I think differently. I read any manga disregarding the art and I really don't have an idea why it's different from my opinions on anime. But yeah, I tend to go for the manga with good art first.
2. (a) Recommend an anime/manga? (it's not a recommendation to me, its any one that you really enjoy that you think people who see your answer should watch/read) And why do you recommend it?
===> The Twelve Kingdoms, it has a great plot and twists and it's completely unpredictable. Admirable characters and unique art style. Too bad it didn't complete the story at the end.
(b) The anime/manga you recommended, is it :
>> From before the year 2000? :: Npe it was airing from 2002-2003
>> Does it consist of your favourite genre? :: In fact it consists of a few of my fave genres.
>> Does it reflect your usual preference in anime/manga? :: Yep.
>> Is it well animated/the art good? :: It has a unique art style, it would have to depend on your opinion.
>> Is the series it long or short or still airing/being published? :: It's pretty long [45 eps] and it has finished airing.
>> Did you watch/read it recently? :: I watched it in 2007 I think.
3. Which is the best anime or manga you've read with elements of the below in (and a brief explanation of why you prefer it to others of the same type) :-
(you can skip genres if you havn't watched)
>> Drama And/Or Tragedy :: AIR: The ending touched me deeply T_T
*fails to find more to write about this anime*
>> Supernatural :: Mushishi, I loved how some parts of the anime are slow and all of a sudden fast [fail explaining is fail] and I loved to see the reactions of all the people that Ginko helped. Love the suspense and how this anime played out. Also liked how the story introduced Ginko's childhood. This series is overall very different [in a good way] from all the other animes that I have watched.
>> Demons And/Or Vampires :: Chrono Crusade [Spoilers below], I haven't completed too many animes with demons/vampires [Even though vampires are like the 2nd most used in anime, I tend to just skip those], I liked AND hated the ending because seeing Aoin win in the end was very irritating but I actually liked how Rosette and Chrono died happily as well :\
>> Swords :: ...Basilisk [see below lol *cheats*]
>> Feudal Japan :: Basilisk - totally amazing, I loved the storyline and how it had a twist of love [unlike those stupid harem animes and their harem].
>> Comedy :: Ouran High School Host Club, it was hilarious, what more can I say? Loved the lead character and this anime was 1000 times better than The Wallflower/Perfect Girl Evolution [to be honest, I didn't really like that anime].
>> Science Fiction And/Or Mecha :: Code Geass - The plot was great, the animation was awesome, the twists and turns were more than I expected and it had school life and was not completely mech. Epic fights, cool music...
As you can tell by now, I absolutely LOVE sad endings.
[I'm weird].
And I absolutely SUCK at explaining >.>
>> Optional Bonus Question:
>> What is your favourite written novel/book? XD
===> Twilight.
.......
Hahaha, Twi-tards, you wish :P
I've done that sooo many times that everyone knows that i'm being sarcastic without me to even write this here.....XDDD
Anyway, I haven't read many long novels to tell you the truth [too slack to read heaps of pages], but I do agree that the "Sarah" storyline of "Children of the Dust" was great and it totally encouraged me to read on, but sadly the "Orphelia" and "Simon" storylines were inferior and left me feeling a bit disappointed in the book. "To Kill a Mockingbird" was a very interesting novel but it was a little slow paced for me...it was still good though. "Eragon" was another one I enjoyed. I never liked "Harry Pothead" and probably never will...
"Twilight" is just a sucky chick flick. The end.
1. Anime:
- I am definitely turned off by long anime series. Why, you ask? Well, longer series usually consist of several useless fillers that interrupt arcs (I hate it when there's a cliffhanger then a filler and then the story continues. At least have the fillers in between arcs. >.>").
The longer the series, the more fillers there are; the longer the series, the more time it takes for the story to properly develop - I find it ridiculous that it takes such a long time to tell a story. Two hundred or so episodes is absurd, especially with nearly half of them being fillers.
Also, most of the time, the series will be dragging on - the creator will just keep adding more and more and more and it becomes unnecessary.
Another thing is the time consummation - really, twenty-five minutes per episode (+ loading, downloading, commercials...) and times that by the amount of episodes there are currently released. Gah, it's just too much - that's why I enjoy manga better; I can read a volume in that time and be much further in the story.
And lest we not forget the wait for a new episode. Really, the only thing good about having so many episodes is if you get into the series really late - if you start watching when it starts, then what? You have to wait for the release of every single episode. Also, televised series often tend to replay the same episodes - they get to a certain point and then restart at the beginning. Not fun at all.
I've pretty much given up on long series - I was barely able to sit through the eighty Naruto fillers and instead of watching Shippuuden, I just went straight to the manga. As for Bleach, I gave up on the anime soon after I began it - I just stuck with the manga. It's kind of...idiotic that there's fillers in Bleach that don't even involve the main character. =__=
- I generally prefer short series. About thirteen to twenty-six episodes is good for me. Shorter series don't really have enough space to drag, add fillers or take time to develop the story. It has to be done in a way that can be easily comprehended in a short amount of time and that can still be enjoyable to the audience. Shorter series are more difficult to create due to the fact that it's simple and straight to the point. If the anime successfully manages to produce a good story and plot, as well as good characters in only a few episodes, it's worthy of praise.
Shorter anime series are also not time consuming at all. >.>" You can pretty much finish a series in five hours - ten hours, at most. I definitely enjoy the shorter series more than the longer series. ^-^"
Manga:
- I don't really mind longer manga series - the only thing difficult for me is purchasing them at the bookstore (my bookstore tends to only have the first few volumes and the newest volumes; e.g. Last time I went, they had One Piece 1-3 and 18-20. I need volume four, dang it! >.<"). Longer manga does tend to drag on sometimes though - like Naruto. I've currently stopped reading it since too much was happening too fast and a lot of what was happening was just plain...ridiculous.
Anyway, longer series CAN be pretty good, as long as they don't drag - with manga, it's not as time consuming as anime so I don't have to worry about that. Though, another thing I can't stand - online reading: new chapter. Once a week. -_-" Or, buying manga: new volume. Every two months. -______-" It's frustrating. DX
- short manga is great. Lately, I've really gotten into oneshots and they're all pretty well done. The only thing I don't like about shorter manga series is...the fact that after it's done, you want more. >.<" Shorter series are easier for me to obtain, which is always a plus, and it definitely has no time consumption for me. >.>" One to twelve volumes is a decent amount for shorter manga. ^-^"
(b) No, I would not. I don't judge manga or anime based on art, especially since some of the ones I've discovered that don't have the greatest art, have the greatest and most emotional stories. If I were to judge anime and manga based on the artstyle, I wouldn't read or watch half of the things I do.
For example; I nearly didn't read the first two volumes of the manga Doors of Chaos due to the fact I didn't like the way the noses were drawn (I'm very picky about noses; don't ask >.>"). Fortunately, I gave the manga a chance and I thouroughly enjoyed it. >.>" Unfortunately, there hasn't been a new volume out since about...last May. =___=
Other examples:
One Piece - Hated the art when I first saw it and I thought it just seemed ridiculous. That's why I refused to read it - now that I have started reading it though, I do enjoy it and I find that the art isn't really all that bad; it's just unique.
Dragonball Z also doesn't have the best art, but that never stopped me from watching it. >.>" I've always loved it, despite the artstyle.
Manga such as I-O-N (oneshot), Vampire Knight and St. Dragon Girl. I am not particularily fond of the art styles, but I still gave them all a chance and found that they were pretty good. XD
I have come to accept art as it is and try not to judge a book by it's cover (literally in the case of manga! ^_^"). I have a few friends who refuse to read certain manga because they can't stand the art - too bad for them though. They don't know what they're missing. >:D
>.>"
So, no. I wouldn't stop reading/watching if it had an older fashioned or unappealing art style. ^-^"
2. (a) My recommendation is the manga Pretty Face.
It's one of my favorite [completed] manga which I found thoroughly enjoyable.
- it's about Masashi Rando, a young karate expert who acts all high and mighty since he is undefeatable. Unfortunately, he and his school's karate team are in a horrible bus accident and it is believed that Rando is dead. A doctor, Manabe, takes the time to heal a young person who was in the accident - this person's face was completely destroyed, and need to be reconstructed. Manabe found a picture in the pocket of this young person, a picture of a young girl. Manabe assumes the picture is of the young person. He then reconstructs the face to that of the picture.
A year after the bus accident, the patient wakes up; it is, of course, Rando who now has the face of the girl he loves [Rina Kurimi]. Rando leaves the clinic only to discover that his parents moved since his 'death' and meets face to face with Rina. It turns out that Rina had a twin sister who left two years beforehand; Rando then has to play the role of Yuna Kurimi throughout the entire manga without being discovered (and thus being put in jail for being a major pervert XD).
- the manga contains plenty of ecchi and nosebleeds; come one, a horny teenage boy surrounded by half naked girls. Of course it's going to happen. >.>
- it's hilarious; gender benders do tend to be funny. ^-^" It's great how many times Rando almost gets caught. XD The humor between Manabe and Rando is pretty awesome too! >:D
- the romance is really sweet. >.< There is actually quite a decent love story in the manga, and I thought it was adorable.
- people constantly get clobbered by Rando. XD
- good story and plot - catches the attention of the readers.
- good story and character development. >.>"
And I could go on. DX
(b)>> no; the manga was released in May 2002 and ended in June 2003. [was released 2007 - 2008 here though >.>"]
>> well, I don't really have a favorite genre. It's Shonen Jump Advanced but it's really more directed to a shoujo audience, I would say. >.>" I suppose shoujo is currently my favorite genre...so...I guess yes? XP
>> yep, for sure. Humor + fights + boobs + love = orgasm.
>.>"
>> the art is mediocre; it's not horrible nor is it extravagating. It's pretty simple yet enjoyable.
>> It is short - six volumes long and is completed.
>> I finished reading it last July but recently reread it at the end of April. ^-^
3.>> Supernatural ::
Not my favorite, but I'll say Heaven's Will.
It's a oneshot which basically revolves around a young girl who can see ghosts and a 'ghost hunter' who can supposedly excorsize these ghosts (he's actually a crossdresser - he dresses as his sister for he blames himself for her death. He also has a vampire/wolf as a pet).
What I disliked about it was its length - it could have been a pretty decent manga if it had only been a few volumes longer. It felt so incomplete at the end; other than that, it was pretty decent and had a good story, good characters and nice art. ^-^
>> Demons And/Or Vampires ::
Demons:
Gaba Kawa. Also a oneshot which I recently read. It's about a demon who comes to earth with the want to meet and have another demon who is well known. Upon seeing this other demon, she has no interest in him; instead, she falls in love with a human which in the end result in her destruction.
It's pretty good for a oneshot and the ending doesn't leave you hanging; it's really sweet and simple. ^-^
>> Optional Bonus Question:
>> What is your favourite written novel/book? XD
From recent books:
The Street of a Thousand Blossoms by Gail Tsukiyama.
It's basically the story of two young boys living in Japan; before the war, during the war and the aftermath of the war. (WWII)
It's a pretty nice story; the writing isn't the greatest, but the way the author portrays the story is really nice. I may have even cried...once or twice...>.>" It was sad, okay? TT_TT
