Question:
Do you find Pokemon to still be fun or more of a drug as of today?

As a former fan of the game, I will say the games were and are still amazing for plenty of the game's fans out there. I have nothing against Nintendo's most successful RPG and most of my question is just opinion.

However, I realized over the years the game began losing its fun. It seems by now the series has become an addictive fad now. The anime continues to be popular, but it doesn't seem to have the same appeal as the earlier seasons.

But mainly, I realized many "fanboys" of Pokemon have now taken the game very far. Ever since the 4th Generation has been released (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum) the competitive side of Pokemon had been revealed. I've seen millions of players now convert to newer theories in the game such as EV training, IV breeding, strategizing, and eventually many have lost their ability of seeing the fun in playing the RPG. I've played better games with better standards than Pokemon. Zelda, Final Fantasy, Half-Life, I find them all to be better than Pokemon. But that's just me.

I'm sure this happens to many games, too. But particularly Pokemon, which seems to be the only RPG receiving more than enough credit in the world, fanboys happens to berate other not as successful RPG games such as Mothership and Final Fantasy VI and VII. There are probably thousands of RPG games which were underrated by Pokemon fanboys. Plus, seeing that many of their fans are kids, they don't really want to give the better RPG's and anime a chance.

I promise you I'm not ranting anything in my question. But since I'm not a Pokemon or an anime fan anymore, I want to know the opinions of others on this website. Anybody have something to say?

In the video game industry, they always need something "fresh" to add to the already-working formula of the game. Pokemon was once a great game series back in its simple days. There was no such thing as EV-training, shiny Pokemon, or even breeding via the Daycare. It was really just what you wanted it to be. Most people back then didn't really care if they didn't have an Uber Dragonite or a OU-ranked Mewtwo; they were fine with their cute and cuddly PIkachu or their, uh, tough Wigglytuff.

But now Pokemon has become so competitive that it's not even fun to catch Pokemon anymore. You have to catch the perfect--and when I say this I mean PERFECT--Pokemon for your team or else you'll be dissatisfied. They've introduced things like Natures, so that makes catching Pokemon so excruciatingly difficult now.

A person could want to catch an Eevee to evolve it into an Espeon. Espeon have a high Sp. Atk stat and good Speed. A timid nature would be great for one of those. So a competitive trainer could spend days upon days trying to catch the perfect Eevee with a timid nature instead of settling for a normal Eevee with another random nature. And once his timid Eevee is caught, he might mess up during his EV training and then have to start over again.

I've never liked competition. A little bit is okay, but nowadays, in Pokemon, it's unneeded. Pokemon is a VIDEO GAME. They're supposed to be fun, but that doesn't seem like the case now! It saddens me to look at how Pokemon has evolved these days... Shinyness, EVs, IVs, breeding, natures, berries, poffins... These were all absent in the older titles. The simplicity of the old Pokemon days have been lost.

I agree with you completely. They should really try to bring back that old Pokemon feeling... But I think they've gone too far... Too far to bring anything back. D:

In my opinion... The third Generation was the best. It didn't go too far with all the natures and abilities or anything, but after the fourth Generation, everything went down...

I still love Pokemon.

Well, the games that is.

And I'm a girl.

Aka "fan-GIRL"

And i still like anime, even though I'm nearly 18 :P

I guess I only outgrew the anime, because it has gone so bad, that Veronica Taylor and Eric Stuart had retired.

The games, however, I still find thrilling to play.

I don't play the games by EV Training, or IV Breeding;- WHY do that and rip it of its fun, adventurous ways? Those gamers who play Pokemon like that don't end up having fun to the full extent, only wanting their Pokemon to be the "best". You don't need to train Pokemon like that for it to be strong. You just have to know how to play it to be the best.

Besides, the new GEN V Pokemon are coming out and I can't wait to play it!

Might I say, I am too an AVID Gamer, and I've played other games besides anime-type/RPG games, like Bleach, Zelda, Tekken, World of War Craft, FF, Phoenix Wright, FIFA etc on various platforms besides Nintendo.

I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed playing them too; as equal as me playing Pokemon...Well, all except Tekken, COZ I LOVE THAT GAME >W<

I guess the Pokemon games on Nintendo are starting to improve their graphics, which i adore and applaud. I too DO like Zelda and FF on Nintendo; but for me, those games are targeted at an older audience. Reason being: having an older audience play those games will have a different effect than a little kid playing it.

Pokemon IS meant to be aimed at the 8+ audience whilst those other games you mentioned or may have a stronger interest is are aimed for the 13-15+.

But, this is my response anyways lol :D

I loved the first generation games and anime, but I stopped caring about it after the gold silver era.
