Here let me convince you not to watch the 4kids dub:



Let me explain what 4kids did to One Piece.This is more or less what happened. 4kids got the rights to dub, air on television, and sell DVDs of One Piece. 4 kids ruined the whole series with what a terrible job they did with censoring and dubbing the whole series. With the censoring the took out all bad words, took out cleavage, changed guns to super soakers, deleted all the blood and made Sanji's cigarettes a f!@#$ing lolly pops. They deleted Ace's tattoo for like one seen, Americanized the food like turning rice balls into doughnuts, deleted all Japanese words in the series, and changing names. The most offensive and racist thing they did was turn a black character into a white character. The dubbing that they did was half a$$ed. The dubbings dialogue was awful, it was very bad comic book style lines. Another problem with the dubbing was the voices were bad, Luffy had a piercingly high irritating voice, Zoro sounded constipated, and I don't even want to talk about Usopp. They skipped huge parts of the series. The entire Little Garden Ark was cut as well as many other episodes. After Mutilating the One Piece series they tried to air it on the WB and Cartoon Network. They f!@#$%ing made it unwatchable and they didn’t understand why they weren’t getting good ratings. NO ONE could watch it. After getting terrible ratings the show was canceled after a brief run. That is the ridiculus things that 4kids did to One Piece. If 4kids had never gotten their greedy hands on One Piece then the Anime could have had as much success and as many fans as Naruto or Bleach.

Anyway the whole series is not dubded yet. Funimation only recently got the rights to dub up to episode 263, out of 530. One Piece only gets better and better as it goes on. If you are waiting for the dub to catch up, it will be several years before it does. I would suggest watching the sub of One Piece. The sub of One Piece is up to episode 530 already. Additionally, the Japanese vioce cast for One Piece is one of the best vioce casts ever assembled. By a huge margin the best person to ever do Luffy's vioce, in any language, is thee Japanese vioce actress. The way you are discribing the vioces that you did like, you will definately like the japanese vioces.

So heres the deal.. What you saw was a version that was not created by Funimation, but rather a company called 4Kids. They were the original company to license/dub One Piece, and did it very differently. I grew up with those two, but I have come to realize the Funimation dubs are MUCH better. True the voices are a little different (but you'll find most are for the better) and the Funimation versions arent afraid to swear (as does the original Japanese version). As for Zoro, I think that it has always been voice actor Christopher Sabat, but I could be wrong. In short, those original 4Kids versions will be hard to find, and most likely only go through the Alabasta arc at most. Give the Funimation version a chance, and stick with AnimeFreak, Its one on the more reliable sites out there.. Hope this helped :D

I beg you, PLEASE tell me this is a joke! sorry about that, let me start over. This is a touchy issue for anime fans. the original English dub of One Piece was done by a company called 4kids who purchased the license as part of a package without knowing what it was. As their name suggests they are a company for kids, so instead of simply abandoning One Piece (which has a 13-18 year old demographic), they made gratuitous edits in content to convey something they felt kids would enjoy. These edits 1. cut the number of episodes drastically 2. eliminated all violence, substance use, bad language, and even religious symbols from the show 3. removed Japanese culture (stuff like making rice balls cookies) and 4. gave voices to the characters completely untrue to their original Japanese counterparts. If you want to know more a simple search of "4kids One Piece edits" will bring up some hilarious results of what they felt was edit worthy. I urge you to follow through with your desire to get back into the show, but instead of the 4kids dub give the vastly superior Funimation dub a try. or better yet watch the Japanese sub or read the manga. Both the Funimation dub, and the sub can be found on Hulu or Animefreak, and the official manga translation can be bought from Viz Media.
