Question:
Did anyone hate The Last Airbender as much as I did?
?

Being an Avatar:The Last Airbender cartoon series fan, it was very hard to connect with the movie. So I'm just trying to get feedback on any other mistakes Airbender fans thought M. Night Shyamalan made throughout the film. For Example:

Pronunciation of Iro, Aang, & Sokka
Momo is a flying Lemur. Not a flying bat monkey or whatever they called him
Appa looked more like a Flying Bear
Firebenders CAN create fire from their fingertips. Thats kind of the whole point.
No Suki or Boomy

Feel free to add to my list

Yes. I was disappointed too. It's like what they did with Eragon and other storylines like that. They tried to cram the whole story into one freakin film, when in reality it would need sequels and the like in order for it to be understood and flow evenly.

The dialogue is crap.

The kid picked to play Aang is not a good actor when it comes to express various emotions. He just switches from wide-eyed boy to master of the elements in a few seconds, no real variations other than that. And he was only picked because he could perform the martial arts moves and stuff.

The CGI I guess is okay, but since it is shot in 3-D, unless you have the glasses, it looks dark and flat throughout the entire movie. And the kid playing Zuko, who was in SlumDog Millionaire, isn't really good at playing a villain, unless the criteria is "look mean and sneer all the time".

I loved the anime when it was airing on Nickelodeon. But I'm pretty sure that those who were attracted to the storyline who have never seen the cartoon are now turned off by it after seeing this movie. It's kinda sad. M. Night Shymalan totally ruined this potentially great film...Well, that's probably stretching it to great lengths. I think this film was doomed to fail. Some things like Avatar the Last Airbender just don't look good on screen, and never will.

I found a lot of mistakes within the movie both central to the storyline or otherwise.

First, the acting was bad. I usually don't notice any caliber of acting but even I could tell that no one was putting any feeling into their lines. There wasn't a lot of emotional variance in delivery which was really annoying. Probably the best example of this is Sokka's line when Appa's tail falls on him-- it sounded monotone and flat when it was supposed to be a joke. Not only was there not a lot of emotion in the acting but none of the actor's faces ever changed either. Aang could only alternate between stoic and surprised and Katara and Sokka could only manage worried and angry. Zuko was the classic evil villain that could only scowl and scowl some more.

The storyline also felt really rushed to me. First we're in the Southern Air Temple and then it suddenly switches to some random Earth Kingdom village? I'm amazed that the movie lasted two hours. I didn't mind some of Katara's narration but, especially when it was used in the Northern Water Tribe, it just felt like a cheap shortcut.

The bending was also really bad. The styles of bending are inspired by martial arts but what makes it look so real in the cartoon is that the bending and martial arts are done at the same time. It just looks really awkward when you have five different moves before something happens. Since this is a live action movie and we have the wonders of special effects I would have expected the movie to look better but no. I also found the 'fire benders can't make their own fire' really lame. Fire benders were strong like that in the first place which was why they were so feared. As learned throughout the series though any bender who can think on their feet has a good chance of defeating someone who can make fire from their fingertips.

Okay, I know this is really old hack but I still can't get over how different the characters looked from their cartoon counterparts. Maybe the director wanted racial diversity in his film. Okay, that's fine, do that for the extras. But was it really necessary to make an asian monk african american? I have nothing against other races or ethnicities but when the characters don't even look like the originals I get a little annoyed. And these weren't even that great of actors either so I'm wondering why they chose these people in the first place.

My biggest disappointment in the movie has to come from the climax. I mean, in the cartoon we get this amazing big fight at the end that makes the whole season worth watching. While I didn't expect Koizilla I did at least expect some serious Avatar State butt kicking. Imagine my surprise when all we get is a giant wave and the fire nation ships magically turn around! Okay, the fire nation is headstrong and crazy, they had a commander who wanted to kill the moon for God's sake, they would not just turn around and leave after some giant wave. I realize that Aang was told not to kill anyone but I have two problems with this: one, this pretty much destroys the future personal conflict he has later in the series about whether or not to kill Firelord Ozai and two, the fire nation doesn't give up that easy! It just seemed like an a cop out ending used to save time.

I wasnt really upset about all that. What completely ruined the movie was:

How awful the acting was. I mean, I usually don't notice bad acting, I don't really even notice good acting (besides the Joker) but this was embarassing. When Aang gave his earthbending speech me and my friend laughed the whole time. I would rather have aang be 16 and a good actor than watch Noah Ringers pathetic performance.

And how much movement it took to create a bending move. Especially the earthbending scene. I mean, there was about 6 of them doing that little dance, and one tiny rock came up. I mean, come on. I thought it would look like a tiny rock, then a huge one come up. But no, one tiny rock. Good Lord, what a pathetic movie. Adn the name pronounciations were dumb. It was AAng Iroh and Sokka in the show, why change it?

Wait, wait, wait...they stated Aang "Ong?" FFFFFHAHAHAHahahahahahahaaaaaaaa...oh my. splendid jap pronunciation or no longer, the teach is American. Like, jeez. I kinda figured from the categorised classified ads that i could be upset in it, yet now i think of i can competently bypass to the theatre with the comparable techniques-set I even have whilst i bypass to work out the Harry Potter movies: amused disdain. I mean, M. night Shyamalan made the hearth usa Indian. He over theory the full factor, i think of. Y'be attentive to what's rather humorous? I by no potential watched the teach with the aid of fact I heard it became stupid (i don't be attentive to what the human beings who advised me that have been staring at, yet i do no longer think of it became Avatar XD), yet then I observed a preview for the movie as quickly as I went to work out a thank you to coach Your Dragon. The movie appeared good, so i began out staring on the teach and fell in love with it. And now i'll hate the movie. XD a minimum of now i can to the theatre understanding it is going to suck, no longer keeping directly to some small shred of desire that it is going to be good. (additionally, Jasper from Twilight performs Sokka. Yeah. That became an prompt, "Oh, sonnuvabitch, it is gonna suck," for me. xD)
