vegeta was compleetly out done by fat majin buu in his SSJ 2 form with the added power of babidis magic

goku was even or a little stronger than fat buu in his SSJ3 form.

so goku cant be as powerful as the fat buu in his SSJ2 form, BUT:
fat buu gained power then he split into evil and good
then he gained power when the evil one ate the fat buu as chocolate
then he gained power when he absorbed piccolo trunks and goten
then he gained power when he absorbed gohan
then he gained power when he went back to his original form (kid buu)

gotenks was more powerful than gokus SSJ3 form as was gohan as was buu himself in (in the form after he seperated then ate his other half)
each of these transformations ON THEIR OWN increased buu's power by more than what goku has.

ye after all this power INCREASE somehow goku is able to fight him...AS A SSJ2!!! a flick from this buu would be enough to kill him twice...?

Gentle Asker....you're just now noticing the plotholes? *lol* ^_^

The first two Answers have it nailed--DBZ was _conceived_ as a "young boy's show", Japanese style, so really, they didn't pay a whole lot of attention to making internal sense. Even so, they did a better job of it than say, Scooby-Doo would.

I'd just like to add...Majin Buu is a creature of _Magic_. The writers made that extremely clear and obvious with the not-so-hidden Disney references in the names. Magic itself does not make sense--in literary terms things are described as "magical" in part when they aren't rational and don't make sense.

So if anybody's a walking, talking plothole in DBZ, DBQ, or BBQ, it's Buu. If he made sense as character he would have _eaten_ Son Goku and the planet he stood on at the moment the first time he showed up. Seriously, that's how Buu came into being, if I recall correctly, his creators were arguing that "He should destroy the earth!", "No, he needs to be powerful enough to destroy Goku!" Back and forth, that sort of thing, so if Buu made sense at all he really should have been that powerful.

But Buu is a Majin. Meaning, _magical_. Meaning: cutesy, nonsensical, none too bright, and doesn't have to make one bit of sense as character.

It happens, you know?
to ask or not to ask ?

Filler completely ruins anime. In the manga goku never fought buu in ssj2 he immeadiately turned ssj 3. Thank God dragon ball kai is taking out the fillers , fillers suck and create stupid plotholes. @ Bradley P buu never absorbed Goku because there was no reason to considering he was stronger. Kid buu and Super Buu with Gohan absorbed are stronger than any super saiyan 3 . The only reason Goku beat buu is because of the spirit bomb and the dragon balls.

Goku is the main character so he won't ever die. Vegeta will always be weaker than Goku. And after so many battles, Kid Buu was weaken and not as strong as he was when the battle started.

It's a shonen fighting anime, victory or defeat is decided by the the writers, nothing else. Also know that this show is for 8 year olds, it doesn't have to have strong internal logic.
