Why did they change the voice actor for Kenpachi Zaraki in Bleach?

It totally broke the whole flow of the so far excellent filler arc (I actually liked this one, unlike the Bount filler. Hell, Kenpachi's English voice is one of the main reasons I watch the dub. Not only that, but it seemed like the writing was completely off. My guess is that David Lodge usually improvs a lot off of what the script says, and the guy that they got to voice Ken for this didn't do that. I mean, come on, "You'll have to get down, I must rampage" (delivered stiffly) doesn't sound remotely like the way that David Lodge's Kenpachi usually talks.



Either way, fingers crossed that they change the voice actor back after the filler.

I feel as the rest of u do. Kenpachi is my favorite character and to not hear the original voice acting just ruined the flow of the arc. I hope like the rest of u this is temporary. I looked at the wikipedia for as kenpachi an it has two english voice actors, the original an the voice of the guy heard last night. It states that the original voice actor ran from start to episode 243, 1-243. An the new voice actor takes over ftom episodes 243-present. I really hope this is temporary. I hate this move on behalf of the english dub studio. If its permenant ill b very dissapointed.

I know what you mean I was trying to find out why myself. It seems like BLEACH is doing the same thing they did in Naruto Shippuden to Ibiki Morino in one of the filler arc episodes. hopefully this is just for the filler arc and not a permanent thing. When they the get back to the Fake Karakura town they better change his voice back.

I personally think they just ruined the flow of the show that was one of the best parts that had Kenpachi. I noticed his laugh was different at the end of the episode before the one tonight and to me it just ruined it. I hope they change it if they don't id rather just watch the Japanese version cause that just ruined it for me.

It is a different voice actor. The reason for the sudden change is still unclear though. It could be that the original voice actor has come down with some sort of serious medical condition. Or simply, that prior work engagements have made it unable for him to record. I do know he also voices jiariya in Naruto Shippuden, and they have come to an important arc in the english dub, that heavily relys on his character. So maybe he couldnt do both at the same time. But you would think with such a popular show such as bleach, he would be able to schedule both. However there has been no official reason released yet...so this is just all speculation.

I believe I figured it out. If you watched Shippuden, David Lodge is currently voicing a VERY important arc concerning Jaraiya. At least I hope this is the reason. A real arc probably concerns him and Viz more than a Bleach filler.

Patrick Seitz is the fill in voice actor. It was so confusing to me though. However if you look on Kenpachis Bleach wiki for voice actor it says (Debut-Episode 243)

Good god I hope David comes back. I would hate to see Patrick voice Kenpachi while he and Byakuya are fighting Yammi.

Just last episode, David Lodge did the voice for Kenpachi. Now, he sounds so...non-Kenny. What the hell gives? Anyone know what happened? I mean, it seems strange to change the voice actor so completely in the middle of the season!

Don't get your hopes up. Bleach has shown us time and again they'll change the voice actors whenever they feel like it. Remember how everyone bitched about Chad? At the start of this arc they recast Urahara as well. The people producing the dub just don't care about how the fans feel.

I know i dont like this one bit i hope its just for this cuz Kenpachi is the most awsome bleach character ever. And George is right the voice was all wrong he would never say "Get down, i must rampage" its more like "Yachiru get back or you might end up dead" and some comment to ichigo about fighting him when hes finished.

The new/temporary voice is Gregg Berger, he voiced Jecht, from Final Fantasy X; among others.



It's not bad, but it's not in comparison with David Lodge's Kenpachi..



Good sign = They haven't stricken David Lodge's name from the cast list yet. So hopefully that's not just because they redirected his role..

dude SO SAD.... i literally cannot beleive that they changed no ONLY kenpachi whose voice actor was the ebst in the show, they also chagned Keisukes??? honestly if i were keisuke i woulda left cuz hes like literally never in the show unless its filler which just dusgusts me . these two were my favorite good guys and now i cant even enjoy it. i had to watch all my favorite espada die and now i cant even enjoy my kenpachi. UGH

They did that with a different character early in the series (don't remember which one) but it was for only one episode so I assumed that it was because the actors couldn't come in to recorded or something like that.

i think it might be because they are getting into Naruto shippudden where jiraiya fights pain and that's going to be a big episode but hopefully after that he comes back because like most of you kenpachi was my favorite too
